Contact our team at (540) 322-3884 or info@thegreenmissioninc.com to begin the donation and appraisal process. Potential donations may include kitchens, full structures slated for teardown, or individual items such as cabinetry, appliances, bricks, lumber, or furnishings. Because non-monetary charitable contributions may be deductible, defining the project scope with TGMI is the essential first step.
After opening your file, we assign an inspector to visit the property and document the quality and quantity of materials. Inspections typically take 1–2 hours for a standard two-story home but vary based on project size. This documentation supports accurate Fair Market Value estimates and provides key information for tax professionals.
For projects outside our travel radius, clients may submit photos, plans, and inventories; we also work with nationwide subcontractors.
Following the inspection, our appraiser provides an estimated Fair Market Value range, a list of potential donation materials, and identification of the nonprofit or government donee. Quotes are typically delivered within 24–48 business hours. An appraisal contract and fee—based solely on the required research—will also be provided. Donations valued at $5,000 or more require a Qualified Appraisal by a Qualified Appraiser per IRS regulations, which we deliver in full compliance.
Donors may choose their own qualified nonprofit or request a list of IRS-approved options. Because not all charities can manage every type of material, donors must review and select a donee suited to their project. To remain impartial, TGMI provides options but does not choose the donee on the donor’s behalf.
Once the donor, builder, and chosen donee establish the deconstruction and pickup schedule, TGMI begins appraisal production. Most research occurs after receiving all contemporaneous documentation from the nonprofit or government entity. Only items actually received and accepted by the donee are included in the final appraisal to ensure accuracy.
Appraisals are typically completed within 4–8 weeks after all documentation is received, depending on project size. The final appraisal and signed IRS Form 8283 (from both appraiser and donee) are delivered via email or mail. TGMI remains available throughout the process to support donors, coordinate with nonprofits, and address any changes in project scope. Donations reduce landfill waste, support community needs, and offer meaningful tax benefits—creating impact at every level.
